The provided text outlines the configuration process for the Power Supply in a 3500 Monitoring System. Here is a summary of the key points:

  1. Configuration Process:
    • Configuration involves identifying the type of Power Supply and setting operating parameters.
    • Gather configuration information and use the Rack Configuration Software to set options and download settings to the rack.
    • The Rack Configuration and Utilities Guide provides instructions on connecting a computer to the rack and running the Rack Configuration Software.
  2. Power Input Module (PIM):
    • The Power Input Module is a half-height module that connects the power source to the Power Supply.
    • Install the Power Input Module behind or above the Power Supply in a rack mount or panel mount rack.
    • Removal or insertion of a Power Input Module does not disrupt the operation of the 3500 rack as long as the other Power Supply and its associated Power Input Module are installed.
  3. Grounding Considerations:
    • To avoid ground loops, the system must have a single point ground.
    • Power Input Modules provide a switch to control the system’s grounding point.
    • If using two power supplies, set both switches to the same position.
    • A CLOSED switch grounds the system through the GND terminal on the terminal strip connector.
    • If grounding the system at another location (e.g., using internal/external barriers), ensure that the switch on each Power Input Module is OPENED.
    • Factory settings may have the switch set to CLOSED, and if internal barriers are installed, the switch may be set to OPENED.
  4. Steps to Adjust Grounding Switch:
    • Remove the line cord protection cover from the terminal strip connector.
    • Remove the Phillips screw holding the sheet metal cover on the Power Input Module.
    • Loosen the screws holding the chassis ground clip below the Terminal Strip connector and remove the clip.
    • Disengage the sheet metal tab on the bottom of the cover and slide the cover over the Terminal Strip connector.
    • Slide the chassis grounding switch to the desired position.
    • Replace the cover and the chassis ground clip on the Power Input Module.

These steps provide a guide for configuring the Power Supply and adjusting the grounding switch on the Power Input Module in the 3500 Monitoring System, emphasizing the importance of proper grounding to avoid ground loops. Users should follow these procedures for correct system operation.
