3500/05-01-01-00-00 Handling and Storing Considerations:

Circuit boards within this module contain sensitive devices that are prone to damage from electrostatic charges. Mishandling can void the warranty and result in the loss of host communication and rack configuration capabilities. To prevent damage, adhere to the following precautions:

• Avoid Electrostatic Damage:
  • Do not discharge static electricity onto the circuit board.
  • Avoid tools or procedures that may subject the board to static damage, such as ungrounded soldering irons and nonconductive plastics.
• Grounding Precautions:
  • Personnel must be grounded with a suitable grounding strap (e.g., 3M Velostat No. 2060) before handling or maintaining the printed circuit board.
• Transport and Storage:
  • Transport and store circuit boards in electrically conductive bags or foil to mitigate static charges.
• Caution in Dry Weather:
  • Exercise extra caution during dry weather when the relative humidity is less than 30%, as it tends to increase static charge accumulation.
• Installation and Removal:
  • The module can be installed into or removed from the rack while power is applied. Refer to the Rack Installation and Maintenance Manual (part number 129766-01) for the proper procedure.

Rack Interface Module (RIM):

The RIM serves as the primary interface into the 3500 rack, supporting a proprietary Bently Nevada protocol for configuring the rack and retrieving machinery information. Key points regarding the RIM:

• Location:
  • The RIM must be placed in slot 1 of the rack, adjacent to the power supplies.
• Functionality:
  • It provides connections for current Bently Nevada Communications Processors (TDIX and DDIX).
  • Certain functions common to the entire rack are supported by the RIM, but it is not part of the critical monitoring path.
• Impact on Operation:
  • The RIM’s operation or non-operation has no effect on the overall proper functioning of the monitoring system.
