Description
AI835A Programmable Read Only Memory (PROM) Type
There are three different types of PROM devices in the Series 90-30 controller:
EPROM: erasable programmable read-only memory, a pin type integrated circuit memory, which can use ultraviolet radiation
The shooting mode clears the stored contents. The EPROM installed in the PLC is readable
To write new data, the EPROM must be removed from the PLC and a PROM writing tool with a burning device must be used
EEPROM: electrically erasable programmable read only memory, AI835A, which is also a pin type integrated circuit memory, installed in
EEPROM in PLC can be erased and written
Flash memory: it is a memory of the changed EEPROM type, and it is also an integrated circuit memory, which is installed in the PLC
It can be erased and written. CPU with flash memory data storage has advantages. It can be used through PLC serial port
The human computer updates the data storage in the flash memory, so it is not necessary to remove the template in order to upgrade the flash firmware
Use of PROM device in 90-30 CPU
The application of PROM device in 90-30 CPU usually has the following two aspects:
■ Storage CPU firmware
■ Store user data, including program, hardware configuration and register data
The following table lists the PROM types used by various CPUs
The CPU firmware contains the basic operation instructions for the PLC. The firmware is developed by GE Fanuc Engineering Product Department, which stores
In EPROM or FLASH, it is attached to the CPU
CPU firmware update
As time goes by, new firmware of AI835A has been introduced continuously. Compared with the old version, a new version of firmware will have new features and
Improvement. Once a new version of CPU firmware is developed, all new CPU templates will use this version,
Relevant technical service information can be found in the CPU revision list on the GE FANUC website. The version number is the same as the corresponding CPU
The properties correspond. Refer to Chapter 13 for information on the GE FANUC website. It is helpful for users to install new firmware
The selected CPU can be upgraded in two ways according to the different types of CPUs to be updated. In this chapter
The table “CPU Firmware and PROM Configuration” describes the firmware storage device of each CPU. The two types are:
■ EPROM – For the CPU whose firmware is stored in EPROM, the EPROM core in the CPU needs to be replaced for upgrading
The upgrade tool contains the new EPROM chip, upgrade label and installation instructions. To upgrade the embedded CPU system
For EPROM in the system, the module installed in slot 1 must be removed from the base plate to obtain the connection PROM
Space (on the base plate). In a plug-in CPU, the CPU module must be removed and turned on
■ Flash – For CPU whose firmware is stored in flash memory, AI835A upgrade only needs to copy a new firmware file to the CPU flash memory
The upgrade package should be obtained from GE FANUC. The upgrade package contains the necessary files, upgrade labels and instructions for use
Note that this upgrade method does not need to split the module. The download file can be installed through the serial port in the power template or in the
For the interface in front of the CPU template (if it is unique), please refer to the instructions in the upgrade package. Downloadable firmware
The upgrade file can be found in the technical service support on the GE FANUC website. Please refer to Chapter 13 for relevant information
Order the upgrade package, write the complete template code on the side of the template that can be proved to be the same product, and terminate the current firmware version
Ben also called the PLC supplier. If you are not sure what version of firmware is currently used, please refer to the following page titled
“Terminate CPU revision standard (version).”
Flash Firmware Updater
Firmware operating system can be updated by using PLC serial port and PC compatible computer running with firmware floppy drive
of
The computer used for this task should be a computer with at least 640K RAM and a 5.25 “soft with 3.5” or higher density
Drive, MS-DOS 3.3 or above, an IBM AT or higher PC with a hard disk and an RS-232 serial port.
In addition, a micro converter/serial cable is required, and the following micro converter/serial cable tool can be used.
■ IC690ACC901, cable for micro conversion tool (RS-232/RS-485) and 9-pin to 25 pin adapter. (The property
Please refer to Appendix D for product description.)
Determine CPU revision (version) level
If you need to change the system, you should know whether the system CPU supports these changes. CPU version (hardware and firmware)
It determines its features and capabilities. You can use the description in this section to determine the revision of CPU and related features and capacity.
