Description

The FAU800 measures the quality of the
signal to provide an indication of changes
in the burner flame.
Quality values act as a barometer,
forecasting when a burner flame-out is
likely to occur. This can help you to
anticipate changes and problems.
Continuously Detect Faults
The instrument automatically monitors the
electronic components of the Flame
Detector and FAU800 unit to detect system
problems or faults.
Signals Unsafe Conditions
A no-flame condition occurs when the
FAU800 logic determines that an unsafe
condition exists.
The FAU800 generates a no-flame signal
if:
• Any Faults are detected by the
FAU800.
• Any programmed Function limits are
exceeded.

Each Flame Analysis Unit consists of two independent channels. Each channel can receive and
process a Flame Detector signal. The two Detectors may be in any combination of the following
designs:
• All DFS Flame scanner heads
• 4 – 20 ma sensor heads
• 0 – 5-volt sensor heads
• ABB Flame Rods (Ionic Flame Monitoring)
Each Detector is independently configurable from the FAU800 pushbuttons and display, or with
Flame Explorer software communicating over an RS-485 link.
The FAU800 can be powered by a single or redundant 24 VDC source (21.6 volts to 31.2
volts). The FAU800 has built-in diode auctioneering for power source isolation.
Two digital input channels are available for parameter switching. One digital input per sensor.
(Example: Parameters for a dedicated Flame Detector may be tailored to monitor either coal or
oil firing.)
Common Module Signal Ground and Shield Ground connection to permit external ground bus
configuration between Modules. System ground can be brought into Module via screw terminal
on connector strip.
