Eight Discrete Outputs connect to eight DeltaV DO CHARMs – termination assembly model numbers FBM219 / P0917LE, FBM219 / P0917LH, FBM241c / P0916AW, FBM241c / P0916JW, FBM241c / P0916QQ, and FBM241 / P0916AQ. Sixteen Discrete Outputs connect to sixteen DeltaV DO CHARMs – termination assembly model number FBM242 / P0916JY.

The price of the I/O part accounts for more than half of the price of PLC. Different I/O modules, due to their different circuits and performance, directly affect the application range and price of PLC, and should be selected reasonably based on the actual situation.

1. Selection of input modules
The function of the input module is to receive on-site input signals and convert the input high-level signals into low-level signals inside the PLC. The types of input modules are classified according to voltage: DC 5V, 12V, 24V, 48V, 60V, AC 115V, 220V. According to different circuit forms, it can be divided into two types: sink input and separated input.

When selecting an input module, attention should be paid to:
(1) Selection of voltage. It should be considered based on the distance between on-site equipment and modules. Generally, 5V, 12V, and 24V belong to low voltage, and their transmission distance should not be too far. For example, the maximum distance for a 5V module should not exceed 10m, and higher voltage modules should be selected for equipment that is farther away.
(2) The number of points connected simultaneously. The number of high-density input modules (32 points, 64 points) connected simultaneously depends on the input voltage and ambient temperature. Generally speaking, the number of connected points should not exceed 60% of the input points.
(3) Threshold level. In order to improve the reliability of the control system, it is necessary to consider the size of the threshold level. The higher the threshold level, the stronger the anti-interference ability, and the farther the transmission distance.

2. Selection of output modules
The function of the output module is to transmit the output signal of the PLC to the external load, and convert the low-level signal inside the PLC into the output signal of the external required level. The output module is divided into three types according to different output methods: relay output, transistor output, and bidirectional thyristor output. In addition, the output voltage and output current also vary.
